Playing Lumenwick with your child
For parents · how chat, messages and reporting work
Lumenwick is a free online world that runs in the browser. Children and adults play in the same world, so it has been built for that from the start rather than patched afterwards. This page says exactly how it works.
In short. New accounts can only chat with friends. Strangers can only send a fixed sentence in a bottle. Every player can be blocked and reported, and a person reads every report. There are no adverts and nothing to buy with real money. We never ask for an email address, an age or where you live.
Who can talk to your child
A new account starts with chat set to friends only. It can be switched off completely in the menu. A friend is added with a friend code, and the other person has to accept: a friendship is always mutual. Searching for a player only works on their whole name, so you have to already know who you are looking for.
Messages from strangers
The only way a stranger can reach your child is a message in a bottle that washes up on a beach. A bottle holds one of thirty fixed sentences, such as “Good luck, stranger.” or “The light still burns here.” Nobody can type their own words into it, and the sender's name is not on it. If you report a bottle, that sender can never send your child a bottle again.
If something goes wrong
Every player has a card — right-click them, or press and hold on a phone — with Block and Report on it. Blocking works straight away and only the person who blocks decides. A report goes to a moderator, and a person reads it; a moderator can mute, remove or ban a player.
Money
Lumenwick is free. There are no adverts, no loot boxes and nothing to buy with real money.
What we keep
A name and a password, what you build and own in the game, and what you write to friends. The full list, and how to have it deleted, is on What we keep about you.
Playing together
The nicest way to start is side by side: both of you make a Lamplighter on play.lumenwick.com, add each other as friends with the V key, and walk to the cathedral square in Haven City together. The game works on a computer and in the browser of a phone or tablet.
Who makes it
One person in the Netherlands. Questions, worries or something that should not be there: [email protected].
